Solar PV Incentives
- Federal tax credit of 30% on installed system cost. In lieu of this tax credit, a Federal grant is available.
- Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) are tradable energy commodities that represent 1MWh of electricity that is being generated by a renewable energy source. A good rule of thumb is every 1 kW of modules produces approximately 1,000 kWh/yr which is equivalent to 1 REC. The average value of 1 REC in Ohio is currently $225.
- State incentives, based on the size of a system have ranged from $3.00-3.50 per watt of system capacity. Rebates are often paid upon completion of the installation, thus reducing the up-front cost of the system. Be advised that rebates are dependant on available funds and can change at any time. (Currently on hold.)
- Ohio Solar Rebate Program
- Residential OV
- $3.00 per watt nameplate DC (minimum 2kW DC)
- Maximum of $25,000
- Customer must have an active account with one of the four major investor-owned utilities
- End date or funding limit: currently 12/31/10 - pending further legislation
- Non-residential PV
- $3.50 per watt nameplate DC (minimum 10kWDC)
- Maximum is 50% of project cost or $150,000 (whichever is less)
- End date or funding limit: currently 12/31/10 - pending further legislation
- Utility rebates may be available depending on your provider.
- System cost can be depreciated over 5 years.
